Martinique’s Domaine Saint Aubin Completes Expansion

NEW YORK, NY - There’s more to love about one of
Martinique’s most beloved hotels now that a major expansion has been completed at Le Domaine Saint Aubin. A charming 19th-century hillside boutique hotel originally comprised of 11 rooms, Saint Aubin now offers a total of 30 rooms, each espousing the same colonial look and feel evident throughout  the historic property.

All 19 new rooms are housed in newly constructed or completely renovated freestanding cottages spread over a small hill facing the main entrance to the hotel. The 12 rooms furthest up the hill are set in three cottages, with each room offering 35 square meters (377 square-feet) of interior space, plus a sizable patio where guests enjoy a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and Saint Aubin island located just offshore. The seven new rooms at the foot of the hill closer to the main house measure 20 square meters (215 square feet) and offer garden views. Two of the seven rooms are configured as duplexes, creating comfortable triple and quad occupancy options.

All rooms offer air conditioning, a large colonial bed, authentic 19th century furniture and decoration, and mahogany-glass or mahogany-marble en-suite bathrooms. No telephones, televisions or radios enable guests to truly escape, though Wi-fi Internet access is available throughout the property per request.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome the newly updated and expanded Saint Aubin to Martinique’s growing line-up of hotels and resorts catering to the U.S. market,” said Muriel Wiltord, director Americas for the Martinique Promotion Bureau /CMT USA. “The unique character and history of the property combine with truly fabulous cuisine, gracious service and a wonderfully laid-back atmosphere to create the perfect setting for romance and honeymoon travel.”

Romance abounds at Saint Aubin, fueled by special touches like Napoleon the 3rd mahogany furniture, large terraces, a delicately colored swimming pool and a magnificent park “à la Française.” The special bond between the property’s owners, Joélle and Laurent Rosemain, certainly add to the property’s romantic charm. A warm young couple whose family has been living in Martinique since 1715, the Rosemain’s have made Saint Aubin their passion, lovingly infusing the property with their own special touches to give it a beautifully inviting personality all its own.

For example, Laurent, a professional jazz drummer by trade, hosts special jazz evenings on a regular basis, drawing Martinique’s best musicians for intimate performances that are always a treat. Joélle, formerly a costume designer for the Opera de Paris and La Comédie Française, “feeds” her passion for cooking by serving as the hotel’s head chef. She entices visitors with homemade culinary delights tapping traditional French, as well as local Creole influences, and utilizing fresh ingredients primarily culled from the hotel’s on-site garden.

When she’s not making magic in the kitchen, Joélle can often be found in her workshop designing and hand-creating the colorfully-colonial curtains and seat cushions found throughout the property.

“Laurent and Joélle’s special touches are what really set Saint Aubin apart,” Wiltord continued. “Soon after you arrive, you feel like you’re staying with old friends who want nothing more than for you to have a great time. It’s an amazing feeling that you can’t get anywhere else – only in Martinique.”
